Why the Drive Matters More for Outpatient
When evaluating addiction treatment options, geographic proximity plays a fundamentally different role for outpatient care than it does for residential stays. For a residential program, a client makes the drive once at admission and once at discharge. In contrast, an intensive outpatient program (IOP) near Costa Mesa requires making the trip multiple times each week around work schedules, family duties, and daily traffic.
The short 15-minute commute between Costa Mesa and our Santa Ana campus on Brookhollow Drive runs smoothly along the SR-55 and I-405 corridors. This manageable drive allows men to attend daytime or evening clinical sessions without turning their commute into a major obstacle. For clients seeking added daily structure without complete isolation, our supportive sober living options provide substance-free housing close to our clinical facility.
The Levels of Care
The Grove Recovery Community offers a structured continuum of outpatient levels of care designed to adapt to each client’s ongoing progress. Clients can enter treatment at the level that matches their current clinical needs or step down gradually as they build stability.
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
Our PHP near Costa Mesa offers the highest intensity of outpatient support, featuring full-day clinical programming while clients return home or to sober living each evening. This level suits men stepping down from inpatient care or those requiring robust daily structure to establish early physical stability.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
Our IOP provides structured therapeutic sessions built directly around employment, education, or personal commitments. Men actively maintain their work schedules while attending comprehensive group therapy and individual counseling sessions multiple days per week.
Outpatient Treatment (OP)
Standard outpatient treatment serves as a long-term, lower-intensity pathway focused on maintaining emotional stability and solidifying relapse prevention skills. Clients participate in ongoing weekly check-ins while fully re-engaging with their careers, families, and personal goals.
Sober Living
Our internally managed sober living residences offer substance-free housing for adult men seeking daily accountability and peer support. Residing in sober housing alongside outpatient treatment creates a seamless transition toward independent living without the risk of sudden isolation.

FAQs About Outpatient Rehab Near Costa Mesa
Is The Grove Recovery Community located in Costa Mesa?
No. The Grove Recovery Community is on Brookhollow Drive in Santa Ana, about 15 minutes from most of Costa Mesa. We serve adult men from Costa Mesa and across Orange County who come to our Santa Ana facility for outpatient treatment and sober living.
How long is the drive from Costa Mesa to The Grove?
For most of Costa Mesa, it’s about 15 minutes. Take SR-55 North to the Dyer Road exit, and the facility is just off the freeway on Brookhollow Drive. Since outpatient care means coming in several times a week, a short drive makes a real difference.
Can I keep working in Costa Mesa while I'm in outpatient treatment?
For most men, yes. Intensive outpatient and outpatient care are built to fit around a job, so you can keep working while you’re in treatment. Partial hospitalization involves full treatment days, so it’s a bigger time commitment. Our admissions team can walk you through what each level looks like week to week.
Is there sober living near Costa Mesa?
The Grove runs its own sober living in Santa Ana, a short drive from Costa Mesa. The houses are substance-free and give men structure and accountability without living in a facility. Many men live in sober housing while attending PHP or IOP with us.
What if I need detox before starting outpatient care?
The Grove doesn’t provide detox. Stopping alcohol or benzodiazepines suddenly can cause seizures and can be life-threatening without medical supervision, so if you need withdrawal management, we’ll point you to a program that provides it. Once you’re stable, you can step into outpatient care with us. If you’re having severe withdrawal symptoms, call 911.
Are there recovery meetings in Costa Mesa I can go to during treatment?
Yes. The Costa Mesa Alano Club on Placentia Avenue hosts 12-step meetings, and local AA, NA, and SMART Recovery groups meet throughout the area. The Grove works with men in 12-step programs, men using SMART Recovery, and men who use neither, so local meetings can fit alongside treatment, however you approach recovery.
